After graduation from the University of Skopje School of Medicine (Republic of Macedonia), I completed residency in clinical pharmacology and medicine and received Master and PhD degrees in pharmacology from University of Skopje Medical Center and School of Medicine. As recipient of NIH Fogarty Postdoctoral Fellowship Award for Advanced Study in Health Sciences, I completed my fellowship in clinical pharmacology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. In 1994, I joined the University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine Center for Clinical Pharmacology. Currently, I am Associate Professor in Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and an affiliate member of the Vascular Medicine Institute.
I am involved in teaching medical and graduate students. In 1996, I designed and introduced into new Medical School Curriculum the 4-week Selective in Clinical Pharmacology course for 4th year medical students. I directed and served as primary faculty of the course for 23 years. I was also extensively involved in the teaching first and second year medical students and from 2010 to 2014 served as Course Co-director for Medical Pharmacology Course for 1st year medical students. I have also taught clinical pharmacology for Renal and Cardiovascular courses for 2nd year medical students. My teaching of cardiovascular pharmacology to graduates students includes Molecular Pharmacology Course (1997-2007) and Principles of Pharmacology (2008-Present) courses. In 2000, I was awarded the Kenneth Schuit Award, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Master Educator for Outstanding Achievements in Educating Physicians in Two Thousand. I was a founding and active member of the Academy of Master Educators (AME) at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (2006-2018) and from 2018 I am an emeritus member of AME.
